Tapovan Field Visit
Our team, led by Prof. S. Srikrishnan and students, along with Prof. Yunus Ali and students, conducted a field visit to the Tapovan catchment in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The primary objective of this excursion was to explore the geomorphology of the Tapovan catchment, specifically focusing on the area where the 2021 Chamoli flood and debris flow occurred.
The 2021 Chamoli flood took place in the Rishi Ganga River, converging with the Dhauli Gange River in Tapovan. During our investigation, we observed numerous landslides along the riverbank, with visible remnants of the 2021 disaster. To enhance our analysis, we gathered samples for laboratory gradation tests and conducted gravelometer tests on-site. Additionally, we employed drone technology to conduct a survey, capturing and documenting a 100-meter stretch of the river for further analysis.
